It covers concepts and processes that we’re all familiar with; it’s simply a matter of revisiting these ideas in our lives. These fundamentals can serve as the foundation for our personal growth.
Could Seeing the Sun in evening is considered a basic?
Lately, there have been multiple videos▶️ making rounds on the internet about self-improvement. The one common advice across these videos is to wake up and go to bed early, eat home-cooked meals, and be consistent with your efforts.
Similarly, I can recall another time when I met a friend last month, one of her family members was having some lung issues due to smoking. Doctor asked him to quit smoking and perform breathing exercises🧘🏻♀️.
One such incident is when I had a dental issue, and dentist emphasized on the importance of brushing my teeth🦷✨ before going to bed.
What message do these situations communicate?
In childhood, our school told us to have a habit chart📃 that lists essential habits everyone should incorporate into their daily routine. As we grow older, we tend to forget the habits we learned in childhood. Our sleep schedules shift🥱, physical activity levels change, and other factors come into play. In adulthood, basic tasks can become more complex, making it harder to maintain fundamental habits that are crucial for our well-being.
As we reach in college, waking up till late night and having junk is considered cool. Later in job we face some issues like back-pain for prolonged sitting hours, cavities, dark circles for quite some obvious reasons despite being aware of all known causes. Over time, we’ve become more aware of our choices and are striving to return to the fundamental habits we learned in childhood, such as discipline, have home cooked food, exercise and going to bed early, among others.
Preparing for exams can be an anxious😫 process during exam time, but if we study consistently throughout the year, covering the syllabus efficiently and on time can become much easier.
All these are very basic things and we all knew about them since childhood but in middle we somewhat get distracted. To live a healthy and peaceful life, we don’t need to accomplish extraordinary feats🥸, but rather focus on adhering to basic principles🤏.
A very well-known story of “The Jar🫙of Life”. Basic concept is to prioritize 📌 the things in life and not waste living a mundane life. The JAR represents life of a person and rocks, pebbles & sands are three category in which various things of life are categorized. There is always a puzzle 🧩 in life to fill the jar in most optimized form so that it is completely full and no space left in jar. If we fill the jar with pile of sand first then there will we less room for rocks(the most important one) and pebbles. So, have to prioritize the things which is most important in life first and then the other things.
But one thing should not to forget that the sand is important too, without sand there is always some vacuum in jar with rocks and pebbles and sand COMPLETELY 🍚 fills the jar of life.
I brought this bottle for daily use until I posted this post 😛
Note: The examples mentioned in the post are very personal and can be updated as per individual needs.
🗿Stones: represent the family, health and basic needs
Stones are big things that should be prioritized before anything in life. It includes family, health (physical and emotional), and other basic needs. Stones are tough to break and so are the things in this category. Some of the things that can fall into this category are listed below-
Parents, friends and siblings
Drink 8 glasses of water every day
When going to canteen choose funk-free food and non-carbonated drinks(try not to go in first place😅)
Have a bowl of different seasonal fruits
Exercise daily
Walk for a minimum 8K steps
Skincare and haircare routine
Gratitude before bed
Journal everyday
🪨Pebbles: metaphor for career and hobbies
Pebbles are smaller than stone, and so are the categories falling under it. After sand, the jar must be filled with pebbles. Pebbles are important to live a meaningful life. Without a career and passion, life became bore and chore. Pebbles make life worthy of living. Some of the pebble things can be
Find your purpose and work towards it
Follow hobbies along with routine work
Buy and read SELF-HELP books
Learn new skills
Read the chapter/page on a physical copy
⌛️Sand: is minor, everyday concerns
Sand is the tinniest of all the three and is required to fill the jar completely after rocks and pebbles. Without sand there is always some vacuum in jar with rocks & pebbles and sand COMPLETELY 🍚 fills the jar of life which may include the following
Daily watch an episode of your favorite show
Read/ watch daily news
Practice being equanimity
Daily routine chores of house
Sit and have chit-chat with family
ACTIVITY 🧗: List things done on a particular day and try to categorize in one of 3 categories and check the priority to be given. The priorities can be changed at later stage so try to do this activity often.
P.S. This website is my pebble.
Thank you 🙏 for stopping by! I appreciate your time.
Recently I turned 27 years adult, so I thought of sharing 27 normal things that should be prioritized in Life.
Heading towards LIFE as naive or experienced human being?
❗️1. Don’t take things personally (everyone is not your person).
🔖2. Education is necessary but not sufficient to survive: Read books that give you practical knowledge about life like finances, savings, personality, and many more (trying to inculcate in my schedule, you’ll see it in Book-Notes section).
🦾3. Do some side hustle. Even if already you have something in your hand, side hustle will give you the opportunity to explore more about yourself.
📝4. Notes/ Evernote/ OneNote is fine but pen & paper are irreplaceable: Writing with your own hands gives you a sense of belongingness to what you are writing. Once in a while, write on paper with a pen. Try to make a daily journal and be consistent with it.
Today, I am grateful for....
🙏5. Respect others: It shows your nature not theirs (I’m a nice person, I don’t care what you think of me!)
📱 6. Treat mobile phones as a luxury and use them accordingly as and when required.
🏢8. Heightened buildings are an illusion, real comfort lies on the ground.
❌9. Don’t overshare your plans with people who are silent listeners, they will do harm instead of benefit.
💰10. Hard currency tells its worth more clearly and visibly than digital currency, use hard currency frequently.
🎧11. Use wired earphones when you can (have to bear the mess to uncomplicate the wires).
▶️12. Execute the thinking: If you are thinking about the same thing from the past 3 months then do it. Thinking is the first step to any achievement.
🚶🏻♀️13. Follow normal people: No pressure to be perfect and ideal. Normal is new perfectionism.
Enjoy being Normal.
🤹🏻♀️14. Make the most out of your 20s: For any person, her 20s is the most complex decade, she has to complete her education, focus on building career/s, and relationships. Follow your passion simultaneously and more importantly take care of your body.
❤️15. Fall in love but remember to get up when it’s not worthy of you: Love is a beautiful emotion, feel it.
🔢16. Organize life, phone, emails and surroundings (OCD make it happen for me).
🧘🏻♀️17. There is plenty of time don’t hurry, just relax (being an anxious person, tough for me but I am gonna take a deep breath. Promise, I’ll).
🚺19. You are the most important person in your life, feel it and behave the same (I’m trying to!!). No one is YOU, and you is you🤩.
⛓️20. Do the habit-breaking thing: When there are some patterns in things and you are not benefitting in any way, you should come out of this loop to break the never-ending cycle. Like you can visit the office before the scheduled time and observe it, you’ll notice many things that you don’t see daily.
🐾21. Animals and humans are born to co-exist: Human beings tend to believe they are the sole owner of the world, but without animals and nature, it is not possible to survive. Feed the stray dogs, cats, cows, and many more such animals that you can see outside your home or workplace.
📄22. Get your documents ready in your free time: Having the required documents is a good practice to survive through times when you need them.
🔄23. Practice is the best friend (seriously, it’s a fact!!).
👩🏻🏭24. Getting a job is great but not going to solve all of your problems: It may get you your first money and can check many of the things on your bucket list. But not sufficient to get the non-tangible things like love, respect, friends, and family.
🏤25. People make the institution, not the vice-versa.
🍰26. Send a long text on your friend’s birthday not just HBD!
⏬️27. Lower the Bar of expectations from others (I’m on my journey to make it zero, hope so👍).
Thank you 🙏 for reading, that’s it for today. We’ll see each other 👀 next time, till then enjoy the process of whatever you’re doing💫.
